With the upcoming release of more electric vehicles and the integrated tech required to make this possible it was inevitable that the standard car radio had to be pushed into the future as well. With the new release of FCA Uconnect 5 and the new Sync 4 system we have a lot of features to discuss and compare.

Faster Processing

Both systems boast a new and improved processor with up to five times the speed of the previous systems as well as integrating adaptive technology. What adaptive technology means is the system will learn where you drive, which buttons you push, which radio stations and audio content you prefer, and offer up recommendations based on those factors.

Multiple User Profiles

Both systems will feature multi user profiles. This means each driver of the vehicle can set personalization preferences, themes, button customization, navigation customization etc. to be tailored to them with a simple touch of a button.

UConnect 5 Radio Maps

Voice Control Connectivity

Here is where the systems begin to take on their own personalities. Uconnect 5 will expand on the Alexa "Home to Car" Functionality to include in-vehicle Alexa virtual assistant. Sync 4 will also expand on their voice control but will be using their in-house cloud software. The Sync 4 will still offer Alexa but only when connected through Carplay/Android Auto

Wireless Carplay/Android Auto

One of the most sought after features lately has been wireless Apple Carplay/Android Auto and luckily both manufacturers were listening. Both systems will feature full wireless integration so no more usb hub cords laying around your cabin.

SiriusXM's® 360L

UConnect 5 SXM Radio Screen

Both systems will offer the new SiriusXM 360L audio platform. This gives listeners access to more channels, including exclusive streaming channels. Enhanced personalization is another key component of the new tech. It provides curated audio recommendations based on your listening history and selected favorites. You can even set up individual listener profiles for different users. With a new "related" button, it's easy to find content similar to what you already like. If you're a sports fan, for example, you can find games for all your favorite teams in one place with the new Live Sports category.

Over The Air Updates

Both systems will offer over the air updates to help keep them up to date with the latest software technology. 

UConnect 5 SXM Radio Screen

Large Screen Size

 While both offer much larger screens than most vehicles the Unconnect 5's biggest screen offered at this time is a 12.3inch while the Sync 4 Has an available 15inch screen with select trim models. Both being high definition screens boasting full 1080p.

Conclusion

Both systems boast many of the same features with small differences. It looks as though the new wave of infotainment systems have taken everything users wanted into consideration and delivered on those features. Regardless of if you go with a Sync 4 or the Uconnect 5 you will be upgrading your vehicle with the latest features to bring you through to the next generation of infotainment systems
