The 2022 Ford Maverick brings truck utility to a compact vehicle design for young urban drivers.
Usually car manufacturers design and build cars that people want. For the 2022 Ford Maverick, the American car manufacturer decided to build a compact truck for people who didn't know they wanted a truck.
If Ford can truly make people buy a truck they really didn't know they wanted, then it may be time to start giving up investment advice from those stock memes and look at investing at Ford.
After Ford increased the size of the new Ranger mid-size pickup, rumors began to swirl that a new true small-sized pickup was in the works. The rumors have come to fruition and Ford continues a blitz of new vehicles designed for new car buyers.
Ford's 2022 Maverick compact pickup has been designed to provide truck utility to those who might normally drive a small SUV or crossover— particularly those who live in urban areas and women.
Like its counterpart the Ford F-150, the 2022 Maverick incorporated all the features and extras that were most important to targeted drivers.
The Maverick seats 5 passengers and has 4 full-size doors. It comes standard with a 2.5L hybrid engine that gets 40 miles per gallon and goes 500 miles on a full tank of gas. Those numbers make you wonder how much truck a customer gets with the Maverick.
The Maverick comes standard with a maximum payload capability of 1500lbs and a 2000lb towing capacity.
It's 4.5 foot bed, 6 feet when extended, makes up for size with flexibility. Known as a Flexbed, the Maverick's bed has been designed to be customizable. Ford designers describe the bed as "maker space", a bed that allows owners to build modifications that fit how they intend to use the truck.
Features of the Flexbed include two 8in x 8in side-bed storage compartments, an outlet for charging equipment and a 12v wiring connection for DIY electrical projects. This 12v bed wiring is known as eDIY.
Before buying, one should realize the Maverick fits into the budget category. The interior doesn't feature exotic materials or leather. Maverick unabashedly uses plastic throughout the interior.
Money saved on expensive materials went into providing technology most desired by younger urban drivers. An 8-inch touchscreen powered by SYNC 4 combined with a standard onboard modem makes the Maverick an independent hotspot. It also provides extensive capability such as remote start via the Ford Pass mobile app from any distance.
The Maverick does come in 3 different trim package levels; XL, XLT and Lariat. The Lariat version provides an available EcoBoost engine with a 4000lb towing capacity.
Because the Maverick seeks to draw the favor of younger drivers, it comes in at an affordable price tag of less than $20k. Ford has stated the vehicle will be available for purchase in the Fall of 2021.
