Ford Acquires Quantum Signal, Increasing the Automakers Autonomous Engineering FootPrint

Ford continued assemble of its autonomous vehicle manufacturing infrastructure, with the acquisition of Quantum Signal.

Quantum Signal develops autonomous vehicle (AV) driving algorithms and testing simulation environments. It has performed these services in mission-critical situations for clients such as the U.S. military.

Quantum Signal joins Argo AI and SAIPS as additions to the American automaker’s AV portfolio of intellectual assets. Quantum Signal will provide key technology for Ford’s Transportation as a Service (TaaS) platform.

Ford Now Has the Capability to Real-World Test AV Technology

Quantum Signal has developed its ANVEL modeling and simulation environment, a critical tool utilized for testing machine learning and driver assist programs. The company’s ANVEL environment has been used by the military for robotics programs testing the performance of unmanned remote and autonomous vehicles.

The discussion about AVs most often revolves around the subject of safety. With Quantum Signal, Ford now has the ability to claim the high ground on safety.

The capability to create as realistic a simulation environment, means companies such as Argo AI can create even more precise and reliable assisted driving systems.

Outside of just testing, Quantum also brings advanced AV guidance knowledge that can be considered state-of-the-art.

Quantum Signal was launched in 1999 by its co-founders, Dr. William J. Williams and Dr. Mitchell M. Rohde.
