2022 GMC Hummer EV

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV changes the cyber truck landscape and projects the future.

GMC unveiled their much anticipated next generation Hummer vehicle. In reality, the 2022 GMC Hummer should be considered a production concept vehicle.

The Hummer incorporates GM's Ultium batteries and power from Ultium Drive, GM’s proprietary EV drive units. Much like Ford and their Mach-E, the Hummer fulfills a stage in moving car production towards an electric future.

Based upon GM-estimated projections, the 2022 Hummer EV will produce 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds.

The vehicle uses three separate motors within two Ultium drive units. The Ultium battery system will reportedly provide 100 miles of charging in ten minutes, while providing a projected 350-mile range on a full battery.

GM wants to prove to a car-buying public—and needs to prove in reality—that the promise of practical vehicle technology can be achieved.

The GMC Hummer would appear to have proven to be up to the task.

In a former life, the Hummer didn't necessarily earn a reputation as an off-road vehicle. While it sported a tough profile, at heart Hummer ownership represented status more than an affinity for off-road driving.

Yes, the 2022 GMC version of the Hummer comes with four-wheel drive. And according to GMC leadership, possessing off-road credibility had been a priority.

Hummer EV comes with multiple drive modes, one being Terrain Mode. This off-road mode includes torque splits between the front and rear wheels, and four-wheel steering settings. Terrain mode even lifts the vehicle by 2 inches for rugged environments.

The vehicle integrates steel plates to protect the undercarriage, along with the lift provided by the standard 35-inch tires, with the capability to go as big as 37-inch tires.

GMC also gave the 2022 Hummer the ability to crawl like a crab. The rear wheels and front wheels can steer at the same angle at low speeds, enabling diagonal movement of the vehicle, for greater maneuverability.

Hummer saw a good thing and improved upon the idea. The resulting improvement being a system named UltraVision, with up to 18 cameras. Unlike 360 degree systems found in popular trucks, Hummer EV's camera system gives views of the underbody.

Front and rear underbody cameras will give live “virtual spotter” views to help drivers navigate obstacles and place wheels on and off the trail.

The underbody cameras are packaged to help protect against damage and equipped with a wash function to help clear debris.

Hummer EV Exciting Tech and Interior?

No really, we're asking for a friend.

Outside of the 13.4-inch touchscreen and the 12.3-inch digital speedometer cluster, GMC provided very few details about interior features.

The company did announce that Hummer EV will come with the latest version of Super Cruise. That version will include advanced autonomous driving features.
